Your Leadership Brand: Like It or Not, You’ve Got One

Here’s the truth: every leader has a brand—whether they realize it or not.  It’s not about logos, watches, shoes, or LinkedIn headlines; it’s about what people say about you when you leave the room.  Your leadership brand is not built on how you look or what you say, it is built on the values you live out daily, intentionally or otherwise.

Those values become your leadership flags. Your flags are the experienced rallying points of your leadership, the markers of what you stand for, and the quiet (or not-so-quiet) signals of what matters most to you.  And here’s the catch: if you don’t shape those values on purpose, they will shape themselves… and you may not like the result.

A recurring challenge I see in my coaching work, is that many leaders either don’t know what their brand is, or they are misreading the signals.   Through coaching, I’ve helped leaders discover that the brand they thought they were projecting (“approachable,” “decisive,” “visionary”) wasn’t what their people actually experienced.
